The First Central South University New Energy Science and Technology Conference Opens in Changsha

Daily Changsha, October 21st News (Journalist Yu Rong) Over a thousand academicians and experts in the field of new energy, over a hundred leading new energy companies, over sixty financial investment institutions, over thirty industrial parks… This morning, the King Mountain Langham Hotel in Changsha was packed with distinguished guests as the first Central South University New Energy Science and Technology Conference kicked off. This conference is a significant event in Changsha’s efforts to build a global research and development center city. It is hosted by Central South University and jointly organized by the People’s Government of Changsha City and the Administration Committee of Hunan Xiangjiang New Area.
Currently, there is an increasing emphasis on clean, efficient, and sustainable new energy technology innovation, which is triggering a global energy revolution. It is reported that the output value of the three sectors in Hunan Province, namely, new energy vehicles, new energy and electric power equipment, and advanced storage materials and power batteries, all exceeded hundreds of billions of yuan. Leading new energy companies such as BYD and CRRC Electric have established their presence in Hunan and have gradually formed influential industrial clusters with distinctive regional characteristics nationwide.
He Chaohui, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Director of the Administrative Committee of Hunan Xiangjiang New Area (Changsha High-tech Zone), Hu Hebo, Deputy Secretary of the Xiangtan Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, Li Zhenjiang, Secretary of the Xiangyin County Committee in Yueyang City, Li Gandi, Commander of the Battery Industry Chain Construction Command of Chenzhou City, Qian Danqing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Director of the Administrative Committee of Chenglingji New Port Area in Hunan, introduced the development of the new energy science and technology industry in their respective parks.
The unveiling ceremony of the Changsha New Energy Innovation Research Institute was also held on-site. As a new research and development institution jointly established by the People’s Government of Changsha City, the Administration Committee of Hunan Xiangjiang New Area, and Central South University, the establishment of the Changsha New Energy Innovation Research Institute will support the innovative development of the new energy industrial chain in Changsha, contributing to the city’s efforts in becoming a talent breeding ground, a key technological innovation hub, a transfer and transformation hub for scientific and technological achievements, as well as an incubation hub for technology-based enterprises. A signing ceremony was held on-site, and the university, local government, enterprises, and financial institutions signed 18 cooperation projects through three rounds of agreements.
Guo Xueyi, Chairman of the conference and Vice President of Central South University, said that the theme of this conference is “Gathering Energy for Innovation, Creating the Future Together.” It focuses on the development needs of strategic emerging industries such as new energy and new materials, and builds a high-level cooperative exchange platform for the government, industry, academia, research, and finance. This platform aims to promote technological innovation, achievement transformation, and enterprise incubation in the field of new energy, contributing wisdom and strength to the innovative development of national and local new energy industries.
Li Jiancheng, President of Central South University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered a speech on behalf of the university. He stated that the university actively leverages the world’s most influential complete discipline chain for non-ferrous metals, the leading role in China’s high-speed rail transportation discipline group, and the internationally renowned Xiangya Medicine and Health Science Cluster. The university has made significant achievements in collaborative innovation, which are closely related to the national economy and people’s livelihood as well as national defense security. Currently, on the 10th anniversary of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s visit to the university, the timing of the New Energy Science and Technology Conference is perfect. It will strengthen the university’s ability to target and address key scientific and technological issues in major national projects and critical events related to health services and contribute to the construction of a main battlefield for national economic development and national defense modernization.
The conference will last for two days and consists of five major modules, including keynote speeches, forums on the innovative integration and development of the new energy industry, sofa forums, the New Energy Night, and special forums for park and enterprise visits and exchanges. It has established a collaborative and shared cooperation platform and a long-term mechanism for exploring new paths for technological innovation in the new energy sector and promoting industrial development with the support of university disciplines.
It is reported that Central South University has strengthened the efficient collaboration, high-level integration, and cross-disciplinary integration of traditional and multidisciplinary subjects, promoted the diversified layout of open innovation platforms and think tank bases, innovated the integrated development mechanism of education, technology, and talent, and formed strategic scientific and technological strength with over 10 colleges, 100 professor teams, and 1,000 researchers. The university has produced a group of leading technical entrepreneurs active in the field of new energy, such as BYD and CATL, which are known as the “Central South system” in the lithium battery industry in China.
